Julian Hamilton-Peach
01:19:01
Excellent comments, Sophia.
Muluneh Atinaf
01:19:17
more and more farmers well connected? You mean to the telecom or data, the second is doubtful.
Sonia Dias
01:20:39
What about youth, what role is there for them?
Julian Hamilton-Peach
01:23:06
Those costs of establishing mobile infrastructure are influenced by government policies. For example in Ethiopia, rural was incentivised. Digi-agri depends on public and private collaboration.
Alana McGinty
01:23:07
Of possible interest to folks interested in gender related to this: USAID Digital Frontiers has a grant program called WomenConnect and some of our grantees work in agriculture (for example Solidaridad in Bangladesh working with women dairy farmers) and the program focuses on the social norms element: https://www.womenconnectchallenge.org/ (this work is lead by Revi Sterling who was an advisory team member for this work as well).
Sophia Huyer
01:23:40
Yes, WomenConnect is a great program and they just held a webinar on this topic last week
Rizwan ul haq
01:24:08
we have built IVR based services for rural community to address the gap. currently standing at 6 M MAU. s
Thomas Riclès
01:24:15
I would like to connect with program located in Haiti
Rizwan ul haq
01:25:10
addressing to business model question, we have built digital services by taking onboard partners.
Rizwan ul haq
01:25:26
- Provided weather accurate services
Rizwan ul haq
01:26:33
so the initial short code is free of cost but we charge customer on weekly basis
Muluneh Atinaf
01:27:00
@Laurens, frugal innovation is an excellent idea but the purpose and goal of going for frugal design and implementation needs care.
Abdur Rouf: SFSA
01:29:14
In under develop or developing countries, farmers are not in a position to pay for digital service. Different development projects introduce different digital tools/app and after projects period the tools don't exist at farmers level. What is your opinion on that? How to promote right kind of business model for smallholders?
juliana
01:29:18
In Tanzania 34% of adults (9.4 million) are engaged in agriculture and most of them are located in the rural areas where there is poor connection or in some cases no network at all.
Marouan Ben Larbi
01:29:54
Interactive mapping of local cooperatives can not only provide some accurate data but also can be constantly updated. A partnership with some key governmental organization is key.
Thomas Riclès
01:31:13
I would like a clear answer for the case of Tanzania because Haiti is facing the same network connections where Agriculture is practice
Thomas Riclès
01:32:22
In many regions only satellite phones work in Haiti
Omar Benites
01:36:22
Are the slides available? Good presentation!
Laura Prota
01:37:18
What jabs can digital technology create in agriculture? Should research adoption of new technology in relation to labour scarcity?
Laura Prota
01:41:14
I believe a research field to explore could how digital technology and labour change over space and generations
Kyle
01:49:18
Daniele, do you see digital solutions as solving the adoption problem for weather-based index insurance marketed at the individual level?
Venu Aggarwal
01:51:00
well said, Jaron!
Purusottam
01:53:34
Digitization in agriculture seems great opportunity for the farmers living in the geographically challenging area like Nepal. The COVID situation make it more challenging in reaching and providing services to these farmers. What are the learning on how to make easy access to them and providing effective services to them using digital agri-tools ? What are such tools, we can use effectively having limited infrastructure on technology with no internet access and electricity?
Shamaila Ashraf
01:53:47
Extending this question to our audience - In five years, what do you think the research and learning agenda in digital agriculture should look like?
Ahmadullah Hadem
01:55:47
This is a big estimation to make as far as I know it depends on which side of the agenda we will focus and where and how much the governments will put their assets into.
Anita van der Laan (Akvo, The Netherlands)
01:56:02
In 5 years small women and men farmers need to be designing the research questions - “nothing about us without us” - what do they want to know to ensure DigAg continues to be more inclusive and sustainable?
Jaron Porciello
01:56:14
I think this is such an important area for user-led design. I know there are good survey mechanisms that are capturing and sharing data in near-real time (LSMA-ISA, PAD, 60 decibels are some of the groups I'm aware of) and these solutions are ideally linked to those experiences. What's happening in real-time, and where do we learn about this?
Jaron Porciello
01:56:29
Thank you for the questions - thank you to all for all of your questions.
Rizwan ul haq
01:58:50
I see a telcoagnostic platform where farmer dial one short code and find everything he need. either it should be loan, advisory, online market place where buyer and seller are present , warehousing, insurance ,
Rizwan ul haq
01:58:56
etc
Alana McGinty
